Is there any software that can turn sounds into readable musical notes?

I would like to take the 'bass lines' from a recorded song and try to turn the chords into readable musical notes. And, before you say anything about tabs or, copyrights, I am the manager of a band that has a bass player who constantly works out of town, and I'm wanting to learn the bass to our songs so I can step-in when he is out of town. He plays by ear, and doesn't know the notes. Also, our songs are original, music and lyrics.

1. Yes, yes there is. I just can't remember what it's called. What I did was google "Free midi converter" and downloaded one of them, and then converted the recorded song to .midi. Then I searched for "convert midi to sheet music" and found a program for that... =] Good luck.
2. While computers are amazing they are still pretty useless at transcribing music. It would be easier to hire a poor music student to do that job.
