Notes Software

Is there a way for me to transfer my lotus notes contacts from 1 PC to another?

They are all located on my hard drive and how can I do so without having to type them in manually? Howabout calendar entries?

  1. (V Card Files are contact files) To export vCard files You can export contact(s) as a vCard file, which you can then mail to someone. 1. Click this icon in the Bookmark bar to open your address book to the Contacts view. Tip You can also export from an open contact document in read mode, but using the view is more convenient for exporting multiple contacts at once. 2. (Optional) Select the contact(s) you want to export. 3. From the menu, choose File - Export. 4. Under "Save as type," select vCard 2.1 or vCard 3.0. 5. Enter a name for the file. Notes automatically gives the file an extension of VCF. 6. Click Export. A vCard Export dialog box appears. 7. If you selected contacts in step 2, click "Selected documents." 8. Do one of the following to create a file appropriate for the users with whom you intend to share the file: For Notes mail users, leave "International (UTF-8)" selected. For users of other mail systems, click "Native character set." Tip If you are unsure who will use the file, or if both Notes and other mail users will share it, export it twice in both formats. 9. (Optional) If you intend to share the file with Notes mail users, and want to export as much contact information as possible, select "All fields" instead of "Only basic address fields." 10. Click OK. To import vCard files You can import vCard (.VCF) files into your address book and convert them to new contacts. 1. Click this icon in the Bookmark bar to open your address book to the Contacts view. 2. From the menu, choose File - Import. 3. In the "Files of type" list, select vCard. 4. Browse to the .VCF file you want to import from and click Import. If the file contains only one contact, the contact information appears. If the file contains more than one contact, a list appears, with an asterisk (*) next to any contact name you already have in your address book. 5. Do one of the following: To import the contact when the file contains only one, click Save. To import only some of the contacts in a file that contains more than one, click each contact to select it and then click "Import selected." To import all the contacts in a file, click "Import all." If you already have a contact for a name in the file, Notes creates a duplicate contact document. Tip If you can see a vCard file in your operating system folders, you can drag it to your address book and drop it into the Contacts view to create contact document(s) from it. Additionally, if you receive a vCard file as an attachment in a mail message, select the attachment and click View to see the list of contacts. Then follow the steps above to save them in your address book. Go to top
  2. Are you going to be using Lotus Notes on the new computer, too? If so it's easy -- just a mater of copying some files from one PC to the other, no import/export required. For contacts, they are all stored in a file called names.nsf. Your calendar is stored in your mail file; you can determine this file's name by looking at your location document.
  3. Contact are all stored in a database stored locally on your PC. You have two choices if using Nots 8.0 1) sync the contacts with the server 2) for earlier versions, copy names.nsf from the NOTES\DATA directory to the other PC. Calendar entries are even easier. Just create a new local replica or open the server copy of the database on the new PC and your golden. Simple as pie.
