Notes Software

Does anybody know a DJ software that can curve the pitch of notes?

A software or plug in that can curve the pitch of a note at the end. This is for electronic music like techno. A good example of what I'm looking for is the main theme in "I am not drunk" by Benny Benassi. Can anyone recommend a good software that can do this? I am currently using fruity loops Thanks!!!

  1. You're in luck. This is easy to do with Fruity Loops or any software that supports "pitch envelopes" in its sound patches. An envelope controls how a sound plays over time. The most common envelope is the ADSR volume envelope, but you will be using an ADSR pitch envelope. An envelope looks like a graph that is at its lowest point on both the left and right sides. In between, you will see slopes, and maybe curves. The graph represents loudness in a volume envelope, but in a pitch envelope, it will represent pitch. When you first play a note, it starts at the left side of the graph, and, as it plays, it moves to the right... so, to get notes that start at a higher pitch and trail off like in the song you mentioned or like a siren, you need your pitch envelope to be tall on the left side, but you will want it to slope downward as it moves to the right. I tested this using the Fruity Loops patch: packs>strings>STR_anty_a3, but any regular sample patch should work just fine. This may not work with some generators. (1) Set up the track, then click on its button to bring up its channel settings window. (2) Click the INS button, which will allow you to modify volume and pitch envelopes. (3) Click the "PITCH" button. This will activate the settings for the pitch envelope. (4) See where it says "envelope"? There should be a graph looking thing underneath it. Make sure the little light next to envelope is lit, or else the pitch envelope editing won't work. (5) At this point, you would set the knobs under the envelope to make it high-pitched at the beginning and sloped down at the end. Let me tell you what settings I used, then you can fiddle with the knobs to make it sound how you want. This is a good starting point, though. DEL = all the way turned down ATT = all the way turned down HOLD = pointing directly to the left DEC = straight up, 12 o'clock SUS = all the way turned down REL = all the way turned down AMT = all the way UP If this doesn't sound anything like what you are looking for, check my instructions again, but if that doesn't work, try this: click "VOL" and make sure the light next to the envelope if turned OFF. (If you turn it on, it makes a neat effect, but not what you are looking for.) Final note: There is a lot more to this. If you would like ADSR envelopes explained further, or if you need some clarification to make the sound just right, feel free to ask... but I think this information will get you started, and it is probably all you need. Good Luck!
