What's the best free sticky note software? I have been looking around for a free sticky note software for my computer, but they all seem the same to me. What is the best and, more importantly, least computer resource using software out there?

Post-It notes on computer? Hi all, I'm looking for a software (ideally a widget) that let me write sticky notes (like post-it) alerting me with a sound for reminding. With the default widget for yahoo I must be connected to the internet in order to store notes but this is sometimes a problem with my mobile, so I would rather prefer something else. Any ideas?

Is software safe ? <Although a careful search has revealed no publicised cases of software being directly to blame for a serious automotive mishap, the current “state of the art” of software development in the automotive domain leaves car manufacturers very vulnerable to litigation. According to Chrysler Group President Tom LaSorda, it has been estimated that the cost of litigation already exceeds $500 US per car in the USA. Unlike avionics, where there are industry safety standards and techniques for software development (DO-178B) and formal proof of correctness required in key areas, no professional expert witness could say under oath that automotive software is being developed in accordance with safety-critical software “best practices”. It is not enough to be actually safe, the software must be seen to be safe, otherwise the manufacturers may be held partially liable even if entirely blameless, as noted in the San Francisco Chronicle as early as 1988 Fear of litigation has already caused a “split” in features offered within the USA as opposed to Japan and Europe. As the New York Times recently reported : Fear of legal action has also stopped Toyota from offering its Intelligent Parking Assist feature, which is now available on the hybrid gaselectric Prius model sold in Japan.... And from today's AutoGuide.com : Toyota has announced that it has received subpoenas from both the U.S. Grand Jury and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over documents related to “unintended acceleration” issues with millions or cars, as well as the braking system on the Prius. From Gizmodo a fortnight ago: Toyota just announced a recall of its 2010 hybrid cars. Four hundred thousand worth. The reason? A change in "brake feeling" caused by faulty antilock braking software. There is no fix for cars on the road yet. This problem, unrelated to the sticky gas pedal issue that other drivers complained about. But I'm still wondering what exactly is bothering our Prius-loving friend Woz, who claims he has a faulty cruise control issue that is software related, not mechanical. Remember that old joke about if cars were as crash prone as computers? Yeah, not funny in 2010. Some important things to note: That this was the situation 4 years ago. It may have improved since then. That NONE of the car-makers were any better at the time. They were all as bad as each other. However... the AutoCRC decided that this effort wasn't important in an Australian context. The local automotive electronics maker had just ceased trading, and any such research would be best conducted overseas. I wonder if Toyota would be interested in re-starting the project? Or for that matter, anyone else? The thing is, that all the auto manufacturers keep such research a closely guarded trade secret. For all I know, it may already have been done. From Breitbart: Toyota Motor said Thursday it was staring at a two-billion-dollar hit from a global safety recall that has now spread to Britain and battered the credibility of the world's biggest carmaker. Accelerator problems with its vehicles have tarnished Toyota's vaunted reliability record, raising questions about whether it sacrificed quality in its successful drive to overtake General Motors as the world's number one. ... Members of the US Congress have scheduled hearings into Toyota's recall crisis, and want proof that the problems with the accelerator pedal are mechanical and not a more complex one related to electronics or software. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said this week he believed Toyota's troubles with the defective accelerator might be linked to "some bad software" after his Prius sped up while in cruise-control. Related article: Toyota may have software trouble Now new concerns are being raised about the brakes on the Prius, Toyota's flagship hybrid car which is in the vanguard of the company's push to produce a new generation of greener vehicles. If they haven't... maybe they should, hmm? 3 comments: Zimbel said... Interesting... I'm in the software side of medical devices (which is regulated), and we've taken a lot of ideas from the automotive industry... but we've taken more from their assembly line software, electronics, etc. (which is again regulated, if the regulations are mostly different) than their actual products. Maybe they should do the same. Anonymous said... The problem with Toyota is not the obvious electronic problem but their refuseal to admit it. Fixing 8 million computers will bankrupt them. Big companies use government regulation to force out the smaller competition. I hope that they are not considered too big to fail. PJC Zoe Brain said... The requirements for formal proof of correctness, for example. I don't think enough emphasis is put on failure modes of operation, bu
ANNOYING virus pop ups won't go away? So, I got on the internet today and that apparently fake "antivrus" software download popped up. I exited out and now those annoying pop ups are coming up nonstop. They say- Security Warning. Application cannot be executed. The file -insert file name here- is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?- And whether I press yer or no, they keep popping up. They won't let me get on certain sites, Microsoft Word, sticky note, or anything. They're also keeping me from opening my virus protection. Also, I think that it's keeping me from deleting the things that probably GAVE me the viruses. For example, when I try to delete limwire, it says -Folder in use. The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again.- And I'll have no other files open. Windows XP blue error screen UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME? Hi, we had an XP comluter that I ruined by trying to download a program that would search for outdated drivers and update them for you and the computer was not responding for like a half an hour and so I shut it down and I think it was in the middle of installing the software...it had a blue error screen and just recently we tried plugging it in agian and it actually caught fire. PCs are so pleasent....heh heh....yeah I really wish my parents would just get Macs already. Anyway my sister gave us a computer (still pretty old with XP on it) and it wouldent work from the beggining, I plugged the monitor and keyboard and mouse it and fired it up and it had a blue error screen saying "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and it also said "technicall info: *** Stop 0x000000ED (0x867819E0, 0xc0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" I tried to make it boot into he CD but I dont know if the cd drive is messed up or what but it will not boot into a CD. I just cant wait to get a MacBook at the end of the summer with my summer job....no more PC stress!!! So if anyone could give me some help it would be greatly appriciated! Thanks!!! (Oh, and the computer has 1GB RAM and a 20GB Hard drive...I know... OLD! And also it had a sticky note on it saying Bad Machine error booting operating system, and then it was crossed out and it said replaced 20GB hard drive. Its got Win XP SP3) Thanks agian!!!
Mac Stickies for Windows Vista and/or XP? I am looking for a program that is identical to Mac's sticky note program but meant for windows. I have both a Vista laptop and an XP laptop (one home, one work), so a variety for either version would work. I am wanting something that has this type of appearance: http://www.stillaslife.com/uploaded_images/stickies-screenshot-721222.png Alot of the ones that I have found don't look quite as streamlined and nice... I'm an appearance snob when it comes to my desktop! If it weren't for the fact that I had already bought all of the programs that I need in Windows version (Office Enterprise, SPSS, Adobe Master Collection--- over $1500 in software right there) for my work computer, I would have just gotten a Mac laptop, but sadly that was not a good option. I always appreciate everyone's help!
Should I quit my partnership? I am currently in a partnership/software startup. I am still in the early stages, and I am doing it part time. I had an argument with one of the partners (we are 4 in total) earlier. Basically, he talked down to me publicly and I politely mentioned that I did not "appreciate being talked to that way". After that, he lashed out and and brought up all the "bad things" that I have done (note that he never mentioned it before, ever). He was being very rude and arrogant, and even claimed that I lied to him about missing some meetings. We get meeting invitations through Gmail, and on some occasions I don't receive an invite. He thinks I lie and I say that to get out of it, when I sincerely never receive some of the invitations. There is a serious lack of trust between me and him. I trust him enough to let him handle all the money in his personal account since we do not have a business account. This was all over email. I didn't hear anything from the other partners. I did suspect that he didn't want me there, but he was never vocal about it. I do think that it is reasonable to expect him or anyone else to tell me if they had a problem. He is very power hungry too. He does see himself as the "leader" but he doesn't behave like one when it gets sticky. Resorting to name calling and disciplining as you would a child, while including all the other partners in the email chain is poor leadership I think. So what should I do? Should I stay or leave? Legally I am not obliged to leave. I also have nothing to lose by staying, but I am not sure if working with someone who has trust issues is a good idea. We operate on a "reward based on merit" type of thing so it will not affect him much either. Also, am I right in saying that he exercised poor judgment and leadership when he publicly called me out out of the blue? Poster said to "leave". What if the company has some potential? Then again, it's hit or miss with software...
Can someone sue for accessing their e-mail without "Hacking"? NOTE: NONE OF THE FOLLOWING IS TRUE. IT IS PURELY A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE USED IN COURT. Having said that, I will now speak as though the following is true, as it is easier to convey my question if I speak as though I had actually done it. So, basically, my ex-girlfriend and I have been broken up for a few months now. During the time while we were together, I had successfully guessed her Gmail password. (didn't "hack," didn't use and software to spy or anything), but simply guessed the password. (It was a pretty simple password). So, after we broke up, she didn't change her password. Just recently, she had been telling me about a "guy" that she had supposedly been dating. Now, there were things she told me about him that made me think that she was just making up this guy to make me jealous (which was working to some extent). So, I decided to see if I could find out if the guy was actually real. She has an iPhone, which syncs with Gmail's contacts over-the-air, so I knew that if his phone number was in her phone it would be synced with Gmail. Now, I (hypothetically) logged into her GMail account using her real password (no hacking), and (hypothetically) saw that his name wasn't in her contacts list. This (hypothetically) made me even more suspicious. So, I (hypothetically) called her out on it and said, "I don't think this guy exists," and, of course, she denied it and said he did and blablabla, whatever... So, this entire time she had been talking with me about maybe getting back together with me, and I thought she had made up going out with this guy to make me jealous (because I'm currently in another relationship too). So, one morning she told me that she had broken it off with the guy, because she wanted to see if her and I would get together or something, and she just didn't like the guy anymore. Now, I thought this was a little too perfect. She "broke it off," and she would never mention the guy again, meanwhile I knew the truth that she had never been with him anyway. So, I asked her again if she was actually with him, because I (hypothetically) knew that he wasn't in her contacts on her phone. She denied it, of course. So then I asked her if she could have him call me or text me or e-mail me to prove that he was real. She said she had deleted his number from her phone and deleted all the e-mails between them, but she said that she had his e-mail address still. Now, in the course of this conversation, I (hypothetically) logged into her e-mail account again and (hypothetically) saw that she had created a new e-mail address with his name. She exchanged a few e-mails between the two accounts (hers and the "guy"s), with her asking if he could e-mail me, and the "guy" said no. So then she forwarded that conversation to me as her "proof." Now, this is where the situation gets sticky... (remember, this is all hypothetical). I then (hypothetically) made up a person I knew at Google who "owed me a favor." I had this "guy" look up information on the two e-mail accounts (hers and the "guy"s) and had him e-mail me information about the two accounts. This "guy" at Google used an "internal lookup system" to get the information about the accounts, including creation dates and password hashes and then he used the "no-reply" email account to sneak the information out to me. In reality, (hypothetically), I spoofed the "from" address to have it be from "no-reply@google.com," so that it looked real. And, of course, since it had her information that nobody else could know in the e-mail, she believed that the e-mail was real. So, I (hypothetically) forwarded this e-mail to her as my proof that she had made up the accounts and dating the guy and everything. She finally fessed up about dating the guy and making everything up. (hypothetically) But, in her frustration, she decided to go ape-sh*t and e-mailed Google threatening legal action about this "guy" that works there that hacked into her account and got her information. She also (hypothetically) thought about contacting the police and filing a restraining order against ME (hypothetically). I know all this now because I called her today (hypothetically) and fessed up, saying that none of it was real, and that there was no guy at Google, and I had just guessed her password a while ago. I had no idea she would go so crazy and threaten to sue people (that all happened within the last 24 hours). I'm going to contact my attorney soon about this anyway, but I figured I'd ask on here and see if I could get any advice. In this hypothetical story, did I commit any crimes? I didn't "hack" into anything. What I did may have been wrong and not-nice, I know that, but did I do anything that could cause either her personally or Google to come after me with legal action? I didn't cause any damages, I didn't cost anybody money, so I don't think anyone could sue me for any of that. The only thing I could maybe th
